Care Home Entertainment

Care Homes

For over 25 years I have been performing my magic show in care homes. Each home is unique in the type of performance it requires. I've tried to outline the 4 main types below:

If your residents are mental engaged, I perform my "Sherlock Holmes Magic Show". This is ten tricks all themed around the great detective. The tricks are interactive with the audience. They get to choose numbers, make decisions and even join me on stage in tricks if they wish. It includes effects such as solving a Rubik's Cube with my eyes closed, and a Sudoku puzzle in under a minute.

The show usually lasts around 50 minutes with a 10 minute picture game at the end.

If your residents are the type that are not-able to participate or even talk, then I perform a show primarily to music. These are visual tricks that they can sit and watch. I still talk to your guests but the level of engagement in this show is low. This show runs for around 45 minutes.

This show includes circus demonstrations with plate spinning and hula hoops. Along with sleight of hand routines, bending metal and restoring a torn card.

The third type are those who prefer an adult variation of my children's show. With bright colourful tricks and a humour.

This includes ventriloquist routines with a Crocodile and Monkey puppet. Tricks where they make pictures appear in a colouring book or find the missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle.

There is lots of audience involvement in this show but usually I go to them (rather than they come up on stage). This show is usually 55 minutes.

The fourth type of care home show, is when children are in the room. This changes the entire dynamic as they often dominate the environment. The adults often prefer to sit and watch the children participate in the tricks, prefering to be observers.

This often happens on open days or when the home is connected to a nearby nursery school. In such case I perform my family magic and puppet show which is more suitable for the children, and the adults enjoy through association.

It is very important you let me know what type of audience to expect when booking me so I bring the right show.
